Alabama

12-0 (8-0)

What can you really say about Alabama? They’re arguably the most dominant dynasty in the history of college football. They’ve gone 14-1 each of the last two years, but only one of them ended in a national championship.

More from Southbound and Down

I was close to picking the Crimson Tide to lose to no. 3 Florida State, then it occurred to me, has Alabama ever lost a season opener under Nick Saban?

The answer? No. Saban has made a point to open the season against a power 5 conference opponent almost every season and the Crimson Tide are a perfect 7-0 in those games.

They beat no. 9 Clemson in 2008, no. 7 Virginia Tech in 2009, no, 8 Michigan in 2012, Virginia Tech again in 2013, West Virginia in 2014, no. 20 Wisconsin in 2015, then no. 20 USC last season. They’ve also won those games by an average score of 37.7-14.9. Why should we expect anything different this season?

Alabama had 10 players selected in the 2017 NFL Draft, but I fully expect the Crimson Tide to reload and run the table again this season.
