Too much is being made of Auburn’s 14-6 loss to Clemson. The sky is not falling, Clemson is just one of the best teams in the country and Auburn lost to them on the road by one score. However, the 11 sacks that Auburn allowed to Clemson should be a concern. The 15 sacks they’ve allowed on the season are tied for the most of any FBS team that has played three games.
The Tigers barely escaped last week with a 24-10 win over Mercer. While they did out-gain Mercer 510-246, they turned the ball over five times. It was a one possession game as late as halfway through the fourth quarter.
Maybe they can gain some confidence after they travel to Missouri this weekend, but one thing is clear: Auburn is nowhere close to being an SEC title contender, and Gus Malzahn’s seat is going to heat up if he can’t figure out a way to turn this around.
