Auburn (8-2, 6-1 SEC)

With two regular season losses to Clemson and LSU, Auburn has to win out and beat Georgia again in the SEC championship game. The Tigers cannot afford another loss if they are to earn a playoff berth.

Auburn still has to face Louisiana-Monroe from the Sun Belt Conference, and their biggest rival, Alabama.

With the exception of LSU, Auburn has been completely dominant against every conference opponent. The Tigers have scored at least 40 points against every SEC team they have defeated so far.

However, to get to the SEC championship game, the Tigers will have to win the Iron Bowl over Alabama. This is a rivalry game that almost always seems to be close, but Alabama has been more dominant in the series in recent years.

Auburn has not won the Iron Bowl since 2013 with the wild “Kick Six” finish. The Tigers have only won the rivalry game three times since Saban started coaching at Alabama.

More from Southbound and Down

The Crimson Tide has the best defense in the country with their opponents only averaging 11.2 points per game. Auburn will probably have a harder time scoring on Alabama than they have with other SEC teams.

However, the Tigers have already upset one No. 1 team this season, and could do it again if Alabama is the new No. 1. Auburn will also have the home field advantage in the Iron Bowl with the game being played at Jordan-Hare Stadium this year.
