The SEC is a conference that is rich in tradition. With that tradition and passion, there are going to be higher ticket prices, especially for the conference championship game.

SEC fans are practically religious when it comes to college football. Every Saturday in the Fall, people travel from all parts of the country to return to their schools to watch their favorite teams play, while they are surrounded by several thousand of their closest friends.

Over the past week, tickets for the SEC Championship game, which will be played between the Iron Bowl winner and Georgia, have been selling for more than twice of what fans are paying for the title game for the ACC, which is the next highest conference championship ticket.

This conference has typically had the most expensive conference championship ticket. However, in the Southeast, college football is not just a game. It is a fundamental part of the culture.

This is where fans will camp out all night for a perfect tailgate spot to set up their elaborate spreads, complete with fancy decor and just about any kind of food imaginable. People will dress in semi-formal attire for a football game.

In this conference, fans will also celebrate a win by ringing a chapel bell all through the night or by rolling campus trees with toilet paper. This is a region where fans will shamelessly partake in a hog call or ring cowbells to distract the opposing team.

This conference also has some of the oldest or most intense rivalries in the nation.

More from Southbound and Down

The conference has won the most national titles over the last two decades, and there is almost always has a team from this conference in the running for the national championship. This season is no different. The winner of the SEC championship game will most likely finish in the top 4 of the College Football Playoff committee’s final rankings.

This conference is rich in passion and tradition, and fans love to be apart of these traditions. They want to be apart of a championship game that could ultimately end up determining the national champion. After all, the conference’s slogan is, “It just means more.” And sometimes when tradition and passion mean more, you have to be willing to pay more.
