Ranking the last five SEC Championship Games in the Georgia Dome

No 1: Alabama vs. Georgia 2012
For Georgia Bulldogs fans, the 2012 SEC Championship Game was a heartbreaker, and most Bulldogs fans still have scars from this game that have not fully healed. And for many Alabama fans, it was a little too close for comfort.
However, if you consider the game from a purely objective standpoint, it is arguably the most exciting SEC Championship to ever be played in the Georgia Dome.
This SEC title game had it all. The first quarter was scoreless, but there were lead changes throughout the rest of the game. Both teams had an interception. No. 2 Alabama had more total yards. But the No. 3 Bulldogs had a forced fumble, and Georgia blocked an Alabama field goal attempt that was returned for a touchdown.

This game was far from over until the clock had completely run out. It came down to a tipped pass resulting in the wrong Georgia receiver catching the ball at the 5-yard line as the clock hit zero, instead of Aaron Murray’s intended receiver catching it in the end zone. Five more yards and the Bulldogs would have played Notre Dame for the national championship instead of the Crimson Tide.
Although Georgia lost in a heartbreaking fashion, they played much better than expected against the Crimson Tide. The Bulldogs were an underdog going into the game, but they were able to hold their own and gave the best team in the nation a scare in this SEC Championship thriller.
