The Arkansas Razorbacks scored over 100 points to finish in third place of the PK80 Invitational.

The Arkansas Razorbacks men’s basketball team defeated the Connecticut Huskies 102-67 on Sunday to finish in third place in the Victory bracket of the PK80 Invitational.

Senior guard Jaylen Barford lead the Razorbacks in scoring with 24 points. Senior guard Daryl Macon and sophomore guard C.J. Jones also scored double digits for Arkansas. Macon had 16 points, and Jones had a career-high 19 points.

The Razorbacks maintained a solid lead throughout the game. Arkansas lead 45-31 at halftime. UConn was able to make it a 10-point game early in the second half. But the Razorbacks quickly started to pull away again.

Arkansas outrebounded UConn 42-26. The Razorbacks also had a 57.9 three-point percentage, while the Huskies made just 26.9 of their three-point attempts.

The Razorbacks’ dominant win is somewhat of a surprise because the Huskies are typically not a team that gets blown out.

According to a report from the Associated Press, UConn has not lost by more than 30 points since Louisville defeated the Huskies 81-48 in 2014.

However, Arkansas has scored over 100 points one other time this season. The Razorbacks defeated Bucknell 101-73 earlier in the season.

Arkansas is off to a strong start to the season. The Razorbacks have a  5-1 record, and they are currently fifth in the SEC standings. Their only loss is to No. 9 North Carolina, who finished in second place in the Victory bracket of the PK80.

More from Southbound and Down

Last season, the Razorbacks made it to the championship round of the SEC Tournament and lost to Kentucky. Arkansas went on to play in the NCAA Tournament, where they lost in the second round to No. 1 seed North Carolina, who would go on to win the tournament.

After the Razorbacks dominant win over UConn and their strong start to this season, they look like they could be a competitive team in the SEC like last year. Although it is early and Arkansas still has yet to start their conference schedule, this solid early-season win could help set the tone for the Razorbacks as they work towards another tournament bid this season.
