Ole Miss

The NCAA handed down Ole Miss’s punishment for various recruiting infractions earlier this month. Sanctions included a bowl ban in 2018 to go with the bowl ban the Rebels self-imposed in 2017.

After the NCAA announced its sanctions, Rebel quarterback Shea Patterson announced his transfer to Michigan.

Ole Miss interim head coach and now new Ole Miss head coach Matt Luke then flipped four-star quarterback recruit Matt Corral from Florida to Ole Miss.

“A lot played into this,” Corral told 247Sports.

A lot, like, not wanting to spend a lot of time as a battering ram in Dan Mullen’s offense.

Quarterback fit

Mullen’s offenses always revolve around a quarterback that can run like a full back and throw the ball down field. Corral’s gifts do not fit Mullen’s offense, and both Corral and Mullen moved on. Ole Miss head coach Matt Luke and offensive coordinator Phil Longo quickly recognized the recruiting opportunity presented by Mullen’s hiring at Florida, scheduled an in-home visit with Corral, and gained his commitment. Mullen is now off to find his next TIm Tebow or Dak Prescott.
