Fromm gets to work early

When the game is still up for grabs, before Dawg runners Sony Michel and Nick Chubb destroy the opposing defensive front, Jake Fromm does his best work.

For all games, Jake Fromm attempted 230 passes in the first half and completed 68%. In the second half, Fromm attempted 144 passes and completed 55%. Fromm threw more passes in the first quarter, 54 and completing 69%, than in the second quarter, 44 and completing 67%.

When Georgia led by a touchdown or less, Jake Fromm completed 74% of his passes. Fromm completed 75% of his passes when Georgia was tied with its opponent (including 0-0 in the opening minutes).  When Georgia trailed by a touchdown or less, Fromm completed 61% of his passes.

Fromm’s percentage of success when the Dawgs led or trailed by a touchdown or less, generally early in the game, far exceeds all other times.

Baker Mayfield’s stats produce a similar trend. Mayfield also threw more passes early in the game, completing a higher percentage of passes in the first quarter than any other – 72%. When the game was close, Mayfield was also superb, completing 76% of his passes when up by a touchdown or less, 68% when tied, and 72% when trailing by a touchdown or less.
