Kentucky invited Georgia into Rupp Arena to open the season, and as usual, Georgia immediately turned the contest into a dog fight.

Georgia played too much of the game without its only reliable point guard, Turtle Jackson, and the Dawgs fell in a tight contest, 66 – 61.

Gators chomp

Florida  used a 90% shooting night from the free throw stripe to hold off Vanderbilt at home, 81-74. The Gators made 15 of 16 from the charity stripe to end the game.

Florida entered conference play with a 4 – 4 record in its last eight games.

Said Gator graduate-transfer Egor Koulechov, “It’s a new season. We talked about it amongst ourselves, so that’s how it felt.”  Koulechov had missed 30 of his previous 37 shots from the 3-point line, but against the Commodores was 2-for-4. “I think that’s why we had a better rhythm offensively. We have to get to that defensively, but it was a good feeling to get back out there in the front of the home crowd and get a win.”

The Gators then took their new season attitude in College Station and handed Texas A&M its second SEC loss in as many games, 83-66.
