Nick Saban and Alabama Crimson Tide football are way ahead of everyone else in college football. So, they have no use for outside criticism.

This season, the Alabama Crimson Tide football team defeated the Georgia Bulldogs to win their fifth national championship in nine years. Nick Saban is now tied with the legendary Bear Bryant for the most national titles as a head coach in college football. Naturally, many have argued that Saban is the greatest college football coach of all time since the championship game.

There is no doubt that Saban is definitely the greatest coach of the modern era right now. Once again, Alabama reminded the rest of the country that they are the best team in college football. They are also not going anywhere anytime soon. But their impressive championship run did not stop critics from comparing the Crimson Tide to former Saban teams.

More from Southbound and Down

Towards the end of the season, an article from The Big Lead was circulating that claimed the 2017 Crimson Tide team was its worst since 2010. In the 2010 season, Alabama finished with a 10-3 record. The Crimson Tide has only finished a season with three or more losses twice since Saban became head coach. Since 2009, Alabama has only had two seasons in which they did not play in the national championship or the playoff semifinal.

Alabama is so strong under Saban that any season which falls short of a perfect performance is often considered to have a “weak” team. Some seem to think the program is in trouble when Alabama faces challenges because they are so accustomed to perfection.

However, the criticism does not seem to bother the players at all. In contrast, most of them seem to find it laughable.

Alabama knows they do not need outside criticism. Their motivation comes from within the program. Any fan or expert knows Saban to be the ultimate perfectionist. He also passes that mindset on to his players as well as his entire staff.

No one will criticize the Crimson Tide more than they criticize themselves. It is tough to defeat a group that is never satisfied and always looking to improve. This is why other programs are working so hard to duplicate what Alabama has built with their own teams. Unfortunately, for the rest of the college football world, it seems like everyone else still has some catching up to do.
