Chad Dollar

Chad Dollar is an Atlanta basketball blue blood, having played at Douglas High in Atlanta. His father Don was a longtime high school coach in the Atlanta area. Dollar’s hiring eases the worry from losing beloved basketball assistant Jonas Hayes, also a Douglas High graduate, to Xavier.

Dollar is well-connected, having served in many college programs. Also, his brother Cameron played at UCLA and was later the head coach at Seattle. Chad Dollar coached for Brian Gregory at Georgia Tech as well, and is credited with the recruitment Marcus Georges-Hunt (All-ACC, now in NBA) and Josh Okogie (All-ACC as a sophomore) to Tech. Gregory thought enough of Dollar to bring him to the South Florida Bulls program in 2017.

The opportunity to hire Dollar probably does not materialize had he not left Bruce Pearl’s rising program after one year for a struggling South Florida program. Was Dollar not a fit for Bruce Pearl’s program? Did he read the tea leaves – or smell the stench – and flee? Inquiring minds want to know, but there is no sign the NCAA and the FBI have any issues with Dollar.

It looks like Crean hired another good coach interested in doing things the right way.
