The Alabama basketball team has been red-hot lately, deservedly earning some of the respect and attention usually focuses on the Alabama football team.

The 2018-2019 Alabama basketball team defeated the #22 ranked Mississippi State Bulldogs on Tuesday night 83-79.

The win marks the Tide’s third victory over AP Top-25 teams in January and the seventh straight home win versus an AP Top-25 opponents. The Alabama basketball team also won their previous SEC match-up against #20 Ole Miss by 21 points a week ago.

The Tide’s last SEC loss was by three points to Tennessee, the now number one team in the nation, in a game which ended with a controversial traveling call in the Vol’s favor. The Alabama basketball team currently sits with an overall record of 13-7, 4-3 in SEC play, and 8-2 at home.

Building Bama Basketball Buzz

The Alabama football dynasty spanning over the last decade has overshadowed the other athletic departments at the University of Alabama.

More from Southbound and Down

A majority of the nation lives and breathes either to root for or against the Alabama football team while the basketball team goes unnoticed. We were briefly reminded of the team’s existence back in 2015 when the Tide announced Avery Johnson as the new head coach.

Last season also had Alabama basketball back in the limelight somewhat as the SEC Freshman of the Year Collin Sexton led the team to the round of 32 in the NCAA tournament. The Tide was defeated by Villanova, who would go on to be National Champions.

Sexton moved on to be selected eighth overall in the 2018 NBA Draft by the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Fun Comparison

On Twitter, Alabama Football has 881.7K followers compared to Alabama Men’s Basketball which has 64.1K followers.

So, Alabama football lost their second National Championship in three years, and you’re looking to fill the empty hole in your heart, or even pass the time until the 2019 spring football game (April 13th).

Show the men’s basketball team some fandom, get to know the names: John Petty, Donta Hall, Dazon Ingram, Riley Norris, Tevin Mack, and Kira Lewis Jr.

The Alabama basketball team has had some lows early in the season (Losing to Northeastern, UCF, and Georgia State) but has had some highs in 2019 (With wins over Arizona, Kentucky, and two top 25 wins in the last week).

Overall, the Alabama basketball team has had their ups and downs, but if the Tide can gain some consistency down the stretch of the season, the men’s basketball team can look to win something the football team could not…a National Championship.
