SONY MICHEL

Sony Michel was the second half of thunder and lightening with Nick Chubb. He unselfishly can back for his senior season and help lead the team to the first SEC Championship title since 2005. Michel also sealed the deal in Pasadena, California to give Georgia the overtime win and send them to its first national title in 30-plus years.

Despite losing in the National Championship to Alabama, it was a season Bulldog fans will never forget. One of those reasons was because Michel, Chubb along with Davin Bellamy and Lorenzo Carter chose to be the senior leaders and come back for one more year.

Because these four did this, they will likely go down as some of the best Bulldogs to come through the program. As for Michel and Chubb, they will probably go down as one of the most liked Georgia running backs in the history of Georgia football.

Then, Michel was selected 31st overall in the 2018 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots.

Michel’s Continues Success in Rookie Season

Since Michel arrived in Foxboro, there has seemed to be a buzz around him. He fought through injuries and overcame that. An injury that kept him out of preseason play and much of training camp. He even missed a few games through the season as well.

Michel has played in 15 games this year and had 262 carries for 1,173 yards and 11 touchdowns.

Overall this season he averages 4.5 yards a carry and has six 100 yard games on the year.

In the postseason alone he has recorded five touchdowns and went for over 100 yards in both games. According to ESPN Stats & Info, that many scores are a record for the most by an NFL rookie in the postseason.

Michel will have played in three of the biggest stages in football after Sunday’s game. He played in an SEC Championship, a College Playoff National Championship, and will play in the Super Bowl.

The better part of that stat? All three games were in Mercedes Benz Stadium. The even crazier part? All three games have happened in a matter of 14 months or 428 days.

The rookie running back continues to shock the NFL and fans all over the place with his ability to run the ball. Michel is lucky to run behind one of the best offensive lines in the country, but give him some credit as well; he earned his yards.

This season is likely a glimmer of what he will do in the long run. He fought through injuries and adversities. If he can stay healthy, he will have a long career in New England and plenty of rings.

His time starts Sunday, and after falling short in a National Championship, it is his time to take it to the next level and show the world he deserves a ring.

Not to mention, if he did win the ring, it would be a nice early birthday present for him as his birthday is on February 17.

It is teacher versus the student between Michel and Gurley in a sense, and Michel is quietly plotting to overtake the guy who helped him get his start at Georgia.
