LSU Basketball Defies the Odds and Does it Again
LSU Basketball has officially taken down both Kentucky and now Tennessee. The Tigers defeated the Volunteers 82-80 in overtime and boy was it a game.
What a game for LSU Basketball. The Tigers didn’t have their starting Tremont Waters due to an illness, Naz Reid scored one point the entire game, and it was up to a freshman to lead the way.
Ja’Vonte Smart came in and did a great job leading the team, and without him or Skylar Mays, LSU would not have won that game.
Smart scored 29 points, five rebounds, five assists, and three steals. Mays scored 23 points and had two assists, one steal, and one block.
The freshman made 41 percent of his shots and was 9-10 from the foul line. As for Mays he only shot 36 percent from the floor, but his crucial 3-pointer was a huge momentum swing for LSU. He also made 10-12 from the foul line.

These two stepped up big time, and both had huge games. They replaced Waters respectfully and played well for the team. It wouldn’t surprise me if Smart’s performance didn’t earn him SEC Freshman of the Week.
LSU beat Tennessee because it wouldn’t quit. The Tigers didn’t give up. They overcame every adversity that hit them. With this win, the Tigers won its fourth overtime game of the year, the most by any Division 1 school.
If anything, LSU welcomes adversity and play better when it’s supposed to lose.
Head coach Will Wade has done so much in year two that LSU has the potential to win the regular season SEC title. The Tigers should make a deep SEC Tournament run, and it wouldn’t surprise me if they made a deep NCAA run.
LSU continues to improve its resume week in and week out. With wins over Kentucky, Tennessee, Mississippi State, and Auburn, the Tigers are likely to be a top-seeded team in the NCAA Tournament.
The Tigers should be a top-seeded team in the tournament. However, just because they have those wins doesn’t mean they should back off the throttle now.
LSU has four games left, and none of them won’t be easy to get out of alive. The Tigers face off with Texas A&M at home on Tuesday, Feb. 26 for the final February game of the season.
Then the Tigers travel to Tuscaloosa to face off with Alabama before heading to Gainesville, Florida to get revenge against the Gators. LSU comes home for its final regular season game against Vanderbilt.
LSU continues to defy the odds and win big games. The Tigers need to continue this down the stretch and let the college basketball world know that LSU is here and not going anywhere.
