LSU Basketball improves to 23-5 after the Tigers beat Texas A&M 66-55 Tuesday night. The Tigers are on track to be the regular season SEC Champions if they continue what they’re doing.

LSU Basketball dunked its way to win 23 Tuesday night. The Tigers showed its grit and determination of a championship team.

The win clinched a double-bye for the SEC Tournament. However more importantly the win maintained LSU’s share of the league with Kentucky and potentially Tennessee if the Vols can win against Ole Miss.

It was the second game in a row that star Tremont Waters missed a game due to illness.

Despite shooting 34.8 percent from the floor, which was the worst of the season, LSU had five players finish with double-digit points.

More from Southbound and Down

Naz Reid scored 18 points and 11 boards against the Aggies. The double-double marked his fifth of the season. He led the Tigers in scoring against the Aggies

Ja’Vonte Smart recorded his second double-figure game in a row with 17 points.

Skylar Mays recorded 11 points and scored his 1,000th career point during the first half of the ballgame. He recorded five assists as well.

Kavell Bigby-Williams also had a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. The performance was his sixth double-double in SEC play and eighth overall.

Finally, the fifth player to get into double-figures was Marlon Taylor who finished with 10 points.

LSU started the game hot and stayed hot. Bigby-Williams slammed in his first dunk of the night just 12 seconds into the game. After that, the Tigers never looked back.

There were ten dunks total for LSU. Those dunks gave the Tigers 40 points in the paint compared to Texas A&M’s 22.

The Aggies leading scorer was Wendell Mitchell with 14 points. Christian Mekowlulu contributed 11 points as well. Texas A&M shot only 31.7 percent from the floor, and without their stud Savion Flagg, it doesn’t surprise me it was that low.

LSU held onto the lead the entire game, but the Aggies closed the gap in the second half to nine points with 2:32 left in the game. However, Texas A&M didn’t have enough in them resulting in the LSU win.

Up next for the Tigers is a trip to Tuscaloosa as they take on Alabama Saturday at 12 p.m. ET. The game will air on ESPN.
