South Carolina football finished with a top-20 recruiting class for 2019. Now the Gamecocks want to mimic that success if not better with the 2020 group.

South Carolina football finished the 2019 recruiting cycle with 247Sports Composite ranking’s  No. 17 overall class and the No. 8 SEC class in the country.

According to 247Sports 2020 Composite Team rankings,  the Gamecocks currently have the No. 19 overall and the No. 8 SEC class.

Carolina currently has five members in its 2020 class. There are three 4-stars and two 3-stars. The Gamecocks already have their quarterback for 2020, three offensive linemen, and a wideout.

Of Carolina’s three 4-stars, each of them ranks in the top-20 at their position.

Gamecocks Find their 2020 Quarterback

Luke Doty is the Gamecock quarterback commit for the 2020 class. He is a local guy from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Doty is a 6-2 195-pound dual-threat quarterback.

According to 247Sports Composite rankings, he ranks as the No. 105 overall player, the No. 3 dual-threat quarterback, and the No. 3 player in South Carolina. He runs a 4.62 40-yard dash as well.

Doty is a naturally athletic guy that can use his legs and arm to his advantage.

He is an accurate thrower especially downfield and in the red zone.

Doty needs to work on not anticipating his throws and keep working on an already strong arm.

He has the upside to be able to use his legs more and needs to keep working this offseason. Doty has all the tangibles to be a starting Power 5 quarterback just needs to keep pushing.

What’s Next for the Gamecocks

South Carolina did a great job closing the 2019 class, and need to keep that momentum up in 2020 as well. Success on the field is crucial for head coach Will Muschamp and his staff.

However, it wouldn’t surprise me if the Gamecocks added a few more to their list by the end of spring ball. Muschamp is a good recruiter and knows what to say to these guys, but there have to be results on the field as well.
