“Unconquered” was the word and 13-0 was the record the Florida State Seminoles put on their rings they gave to their players after the season concluded. And this cause a lot of stir on social media. Not only did fans on social media feel passionate about how they felt, but apparently SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey did as well.

What did SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey say about Florida State?

During 2024 SEC Media Days, Sankey was not shy about giving the Seminoles a jab when it came to being left out of the College Football playoff in 2023. When asked about his thoughts on the college football playoff expansion, Sankey took the opportunity not only to speak about that, but the past as well.

“Georgia was one of the best four teams (in the nation) and didn’t get in (the Playoff). But you didn’t see us jumping up and down and complaining and hanging national championship banners,” Sankey said.

Why was Florida State left out of the College Football Playoff in 2023?

After an undefeated regular season and winning the ACC Conference Championship, the Seminoles were left out of the college football playoff with the SEC’s Alabama Crimson Tide being put in over the 'Noles.

With the Seminoles losing their starting quarterback Jordan Travis to a leg injury late in the season, it made them much less of a competitive team, which was inarguable on the field. And according to NCAA guidelines, the College Football Committee that votes the four teams that make the playoff can take into account injuries that alter a teams competitiveness, which was the case with the Seminoles.

Sankey was clearly on board with this and thought it made sense like much of the country did, and seemed to let it all out playfully with the one liner in SEC Media Days earlier this week.
