Between the transfer portal, NIL, high school recruiting and other factors, lots has happened in the off season for college football. With falls camps on the horizon to kick off 2024 and SEC Media Days concluded, rosters are fully in place and teams have more of a feel for the situations they are walking into. Areas of improvement and strength have more of a feel than they did earlier in the off season.

Here are letter grades for each SEC team’s 2024 offseason

Alabama Crimson Tide (A-)

With Nick Saban retiring after 17 years at the helm in Tuscaloosa, new head coach Kalen DeBoer has hardly skipped a beat with the Tide currently ranking second in the country in the 2025 recruiting class.

While DeBoer is not emphasizing the state of Alabama as much as Saban did, he is bringing in some big commitments and names on a national level.

DeBoer is also getting it done in the transfer portal with key acquisitions wide receiver Germie Bernard and offensive lineman Parker Brailsford. DeBoer also got Freshman All-American Kayden Proctor to return to Tuscaloosa before briefly transferring to Iowa this offseason.

Arkansas Razorbacks (B)

Sam Pittman is on the hot seat, but simmered it some with a key off season hire in former Razorbacks coach Bobby Petrino as his offensive coordinator. Seeing as Petrino had multiple double digit win seasons during his time as head coach in Fayetteville, this is a good thing for the Hogs.

Petrino and Pittman also brought in Boise State transfer quarterback Taylen Green who should plug and play nicely as the starter for the Hogs.

Beyond Green, the Hogs did not have many key transfer portal acquisitions and lost starting linebacker Chris “Poo” Paul Jr. to the portal, so time will tell here.
