Bruce Pearl, Chris Beard, Nate Oats and Scott Drew. These are all names that have been mentioned as potentials for the next head coach of the Kentucky Wildcats to replace John Calipari who just left the position to become the head coach of the Arkansas Razorbacks after 15 years in Lexington. And none of these names are surprising.
With non-surprise names always comes surprise candidates a well. In this article, I mention some of the less likely candidates that should not be off the table to replace Calipari in Lexington depending on how the dominos fall.
Here are some Surprise Names to Watch for in the Kentucky Basketball Head Coaching Search
Again, while unlikely, this would be quite the shocker if Musselman ended up in Lexington after leaving the position that Calipari ultimately took with the Arkansas Razorbacks.
Musselman led the Razorbacks to back-to-back elite eight’s in the 2022 and 2023 seasons before the team fell flat this year going 16-17.
Before arriving in Fayetteville for the 2020 season, Musselman led the Nevada Wolfpack for four seasons and had the team appearing in the NCAA Tournament in his final three with the school.
His overall coaching record is 110-34.
