Top Missouri Tigers recruit suffers significant injury
Quarterback Matt Zollers suffered a broken ankle this past Friday night in a high school game for his high school team the Spring-Ford Rams. Zollers is in his senior season for the Rams, so as far as his high school career is concerned, that has come to a close.
Zollers however is ranked sixth nationally in the class of 2025 according to On3 and is committed to the Missouri Tigers as their only five-star currently. Head coach Eli Drinkwitz has the Tigers coming off of an 11-2 season capped with a bowl victory over Ohio State and off to a 3-0 start in 2024.
With positive things on the horizon for the Tigers football program, Zollers is presumed to be one of the next guys up as current Tigers starting quarterback Brady Cook will be out of eligibility after this season.
Zollers’ recruiting journey started off extremely quiet, with his only FBS offer being from Old Dominion University less than two years ago before it really took off. Once it did, his ranking took off as well. This past summer, Zollers was seen throwing the ball 80 yards on a high school field. The clip went viral on social media, causing Zollers’ national spotlight to grow even more.
How will Matt Zollers’ injury impact him with the Missouri Tigers?
Physically for the Tigers, this should not affect Zollers being able to play at all once he steps on campus. Injuries like this however as LockedOn Mizzou host Jon Miller points out can be difficult for football players to overcome psychologically. That is a question that will have to be left up in the air for a while, but at this point everything surrounding Zollers and his ability to participate for the Tigers whether in practice or game setting right away should not be impacted.
