SEC football coaches are constantly being evaluated, and we do our part to add to that. This is the fourth in our series of head football coach evaluations for the conference.

More from Florida Gators

After evaluating three SEC coaches with at least one year experience, we are going to take a look at the University of Florida’s new Head Coach Jim McElwain.

McElwain is not entirely new to the SEC, having served as the offensive coordinator at the University of Alabama from 2008-2011. He is also not new to being a head coach, having left Alabama to take the head job at Colorado State University from 2012-14.

While not new to the SEC or being a head coach, this will be McElwain’s first go at being the head coach of not just an SEC school, but a recent national power. With this being the scenario, an actual evaluation of McElwain’s coaching at Florida is not really possible. Instead we will determine whether the Gators made a quality hire.
