Week 4 AP Poll Released, Makes More Sense . . . Again
Just like last week, the AP Poll has been released and has again shown itself to be more reliable than Coaches Poll.
Somehow the Coaches Poll left Oregon in the rankings after the Ducks have already taken two losses and fell by 42 points to Utah. While there is sure to be some debate about the AP Top 25 Poll, at least the voting members have shown they pay attention to what is going on in college football and are not scared to act on it. Preseason hype can build momentum for a program, but if they fail to deliver in the season … the hype should dissipate. The AP was quick to get rid of Auburn and now Oregon. Both have plenty of opportunities to work themselves back in, but they definitely should have to re-earn a ranking in either poll.

AP Top 25
1. Ohio State
2. Michigan State
3. Ole Miss
The Rebels now claim sole possession of third after sharing it with TCU last week. I’m not sure how that happened. TCU beat Texas Tech on a miracle play, but that is still much more of a quality win than beating Vanderbilt by only 11. Ole Miss fans are also sure to hear about the 2014 Peach Bowl. Yeah…we’re not posting a link to that here.
4. TCU
5. Baylor
6. Notre Dame
7. UCLA
8. Georgia
All Georgia did was soundly beat a nobody opponent like they should have . . . yet they were leapfrogged yet again. Georgia will have a chance to make some noise with a quality win if they can beat Alabama next week, however. If the Bulldogs win that one, it will be their turn to do some leap frogging.
9. LSU
LSU was unimpressive in a victory against Syracuse. Like Georgia, they moved down one spot but still have plenty of time and quality opponents left to get themselves in better position in the rankings.
10. Utah
11. Florida State
12. Clemson
13. Alabama
Alabama remains the highest ranked one loss team in the nation and ahead of several undefeated programs. If the Tide beat Georgia next week, they should jump ahead of even more.
14. Texas A&M
The Aggies get a ranked team when Mississippi State comes to College Station. Their win against Arizona State gets less impressive every week and the Aggies really need a quality win in order to crack the Top 10 this early in the season.
15. Oklahoma
16. Northwestern
17. Southern California
18. Stanford
19. Wisconsin
20. Oklahoma State
21. Mississippi State
MSU has worked its way back into the rankings for the second time this season. Unfortunately, depending on the result of their game with the Aggies, their ranking is not high enough to keep them safe if they fall again soon. If the Bulldogs want to stay ranked, they’ll need to pull the upset against TAMU.
22. Michigan
23. West Virginia
24. California
25. Florida
Similar to the scenario Mississippi State faces, the Gators have gotten a ranking just in time to play a team that will be favored by most everyone. At least the Gators get their game at home.
