Arkansas Football: 4th And 25, The Play That Will Define The Razorback’s Season

facebooktwitterreddit

The Arkansas Razorback’s season has been a disappointment.  This was supposed to be a big year for Arkansas football.  Thought of by many as a dark horse contender before the season began, the team had 3 losses before the month of September was even over.

One of those losses was at the hands of Toledo, days after Bret Bielema had made some negative remarks about Ohio State and their scheduling of opponents that Bielema was none too impressed with.  Those comments came back to bite him after the loss, as did comments he allegedly made about the Texas Tech offense before he lost to the Red Raiders 35-24.

But it won’t be the loss to Toledo that defines the 2015 season.  It won’t be the tight-for-3-quarters game against Alabama.  The season will not be defined by his bickering with Red Raider head coach Kliff Kingsbury. No, it won’t even be the thrilling overtime win against Auburn.

It will be this play.  Arkansas seems to have Ole Miss and Hugh Freeze’s number.  After trading score after score in Oxford, the game went to overtime.   Ole Miss quickly scored with their first OT possession and, after a few mishaps, it appeared that they would send their fans home happy.

But again.  This play.  I won’t dissect the play.  Let’s call it what it was and is: luck.  Arkansas caught a lucky break and it will be the defining moment of their season.

After losing leading tailback Jonathan Williams before the season began and seeing some balls not bounce their way, the Hogs were paid back by the football gods with an insanely lucky play.  Don’t get me wrong: it was a heady play by Hunter Henry just to give the Razorbacks a chance at getting some luck.  It was even more impressive the Alex Collins recovered the ball and found a way to gain a first down, all while being surrounded by Rebel defenders.

This will be the 2015 moment that defines the Razorbacks season.  While their season will ultimately be viewed as disappointing, the Razorbacks still have a chance to go bowling.   After starting the season 1-3, I would imagine most Arkansas faithful will be happy with their good fortune and keep “sooing”.
