Week 10 AP Top 25 and Coach’s Poll Released

facebooktwitterreddit

The AP Poll has a new number one.  It would appear that the College Football Playoff Poll has influenced both the AP Poll and Coach’s Poll, as each moved several teams in ways that simulate the rankings of the College Football Playoff.

The AP Poll

After weeks of near-uniformity in the top 4 spots of the AP Poll, none of the teams in the top 4 are the same.  Some teams maintained their presence in the top 4, but all of the teams moved in the rankings.  Clemson jumped 2 spots to #1, Ohio State fell to #2, Alabama jumped 5 spots to #3 and Baylor fell to #2.  Without the College Football Playoff Poll, you just can’t convince me that these would be the rankings.  There is no way they would jump Alabama ahead of so many undefeated teams on their own; Baylor would not have fallen behind.

Oklahoma State saw the biggest rise in their ranking, jumping 7 spots to #5.  TCU and Michigan State both plummeted down the rankings after each took their first loss of the season.  TCU (#13) and Michigan State (#14) each fell 8 spots to reach their current landing spot.  Each could easily work their way back in to the top 10, but each also have some of their hardest games on the schedule remaining.

    Coach’s Poll

Much like the AP Poll, the Coach’s Poll shifted several teams around.  The Coach’s Poll stayed truer to their own rankings, but there were shifts nonetheless.  It seems like the College Football Playoff Poll is influencing the other two major polls and many would argue it should.  My argument here would be that we should do away with the other polls until later in the season.  But we all know the polls are moneymakers and are not going anywhere.
