As we continue to dream of SEC football, we’ll look at each team and tell you who their best player is.  Ole Miss football is up first.

Each SEC football team has at least a few studs.  Whether it be their middle linebacker, corner, wide receiver or quarterback, each fan base has those few guys they can point to and say “he’s that dude.”

Recently it was a difficult task to name the best player for Ole Miss football.  You had the triplet of 5-stars that lived up to the hype in Robert Nkemdiche, Laquon Treadwell and Laremy Tunsil.  Last year a case could have been made for each being the best player on the Ole Miss football team.  We don’t have that problem this year, though the Rebels are still loaded with talent.

Evan Engram may be the best tight end in the SEC.  Tony Conner is a beast in the secondary, who missed turning pro with his 2013 class brethren due to a knee injury.  Ole Miss football hosts a ton of current and future talent, but one players stands above the rest as the best:  Chad Kelly.

More from SEC Football

Ole Miss football has a proud history of quarterbacks, but the two most prominent are both Manning’s.  While Kelly obviously isn’t a Mannning, he is continuing the proud quarterbacking tradition of Ole Miss football and is a legacy himself (being Jim Kelly’s nephew).

Why is he clearly the best player for Ole Miss football?  He is clearly the best quarterback in the SEC.  The SEC’s sports information directors may not think he is deserving of being first-team all-SEC quarterback, but they’re the only ones.

Chad Kelly had the third-best statistical season in terms of passing yardage ever by a quarterback from the SEC.  He also had the most yards overall in a season by anyone not named Johnny Manziel — and Manziel won a Heisman for his efforts.  Chad Kelly isn’t just the best player for Ole Miss football.  Kelly could be one of the greatest quarterbacks in Ole Miss and SEC history.  Here’s to hoping we see a legend made in 2016.
