SEC Football: Fan Satisfaction With Coaches at All-Time High (Poll)

SEC football coaches can have a rough go of it, from top of the world one year to being on the hot seat the following one. But right now, it seems most fan bases are pretty satisfied with their coaches.

An interesting point was raised as I was listening to local Atlanta sports talk station 680 The Fan on Sunday. Right now, the fan satisfaction level with SEC football coaches is in a place where we rarely see it. Practically every school’s fan base is either satisfied with or absolutely in love with their coach.

Now while every coach will have his group of detractors and trolls, the longtime coaches like Mark Richt, Nick Saban, Les Miles, Steve Spurrier and Gary Pinkel have more than enough support from fans (as well as their team and administration) to not have to worry.

But when you look at the rest of the SEC, it seems as though you have a lot of coaches who are fairly new in their positions who are getting raises, extensions and rave reviews from fans (some questionably optimistic, in truth).

Seriously, are they any fans in the SEC who aren’t in love or at least reasonably happy with their football coach?

Right now, outside of Derek Mason at Vanderbilt, I can’t think of a single SEC coach who really is feeling pressure this season in terms of “get it done now”, and even Mason is only heading into his second season in a program where even going to a bowl game is viewed as a victory.

But look at guys like Dan Mullen, Bret Bielema, Mark Stoops, Hugh Freeze, Butch Jones, Gus Malzahn and Kevin Sumlin – and fans seem to just be smitten with these coaches, who all have their programs on the rise.

The Florida fan base is ecstatic to have anyone other than Will Muschamp, so how they view Jim McElwain after his first season will be an interesting litmus test.

By this time next year, will any of the names in that large group of fairly young coaches be on the hot seat? This is the SEC after all, and results keep jobs safe.

Let’s test the theory. How do you feel about your school’s head coach? Comment below and tell us if you love your coach, hate him, or don’t really care either way.
