Big news out of South Bend this week, former Notre Dame starting quarterback Everett Golson is transferring and rumor has it, he wants to transfer to an SEC . According to 247 Sports, Golson has narrowed his choices to two SEC schools.
There are several SEC schools in need of starting quarterback, but what school is the right pick for Golson?
Let’s take a look at a few.
LSU – What has been the one thing missing from this LSU team over the past few years? A great quarterback. LSU has struggled at the quarterback position for the past few years and really hasn’t had a play maker at that position in awhile. Jordan Jefferson was the last LSU quarterback to lead them to an SEC Championship and since then, the Tigers have struggled at that position.
Florida – Gainesville might be the perfect landing place for Golson because if anyone desperately needs a quarterback, it’s Florida. Gator fans have had to suffer through bad quarterback play for years and Golson would be a breath of fresh air for new head coach Jim Mcelwain.
South Carolina – Quick, name the last great South Carolina quarterback under Steve Spurrier. If you are stuck, join the club because there really hasn’t been a great quarterback under Steve Spurrier, unless you count Connor Shaw. Spurrier has had some good game managers, but he hasn’t had a difference maker at quarterback since his days at Florida. Golson, who is a South Carolina native, may be the perfect fit.

Alabama – Yes, the Crimson Tide has a stable of quarterback studs including former Florida State quarterback Jake Coker who is expected to start this year. But if Golson wants to compete for national championship right away, then what better place to go than Tuscaloosa. The only question will be how he would fit into offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin’s system.
Georgia – The surprise school in all of this may be the Bulldogs. Golson named the Bulldogs as one of the schools he plans on visiting. This is one of the few years that Mark Richt’s team has entered the season without knowing who will be under center in the fall. How quick a contender would the Bulldogs become if Golson was named starting quarterback?
From the looks it, whatever decision Golson makes, it will be quick. There is one stipulation to him transferring to an SEC school; the commissioner must approve first.
Golson will not however, have to sit out a year as required by most transfers-he will get his degree this summer which will allow him to play this upcoming season.
