Nick Saban is one of the most polarizing figures in college sports today. Saban is beloved by the Alabama fan base, but often hated and misunderstood by those outside of Tuscaloosa. Those who know Saban, like his former players, praise not only his coaching skills, but praise his personality as well, especially his sense of humor which is often hidden from the public.

He is a man often misunderstood by the public because he doesn’t tolerate fools lightly. But those in the media who spend the most time with him outside his players and coaching staff, see a different side of Saban. They see a man who is very protective of his program, especially his players, but is always looking for the next challenge.
Paul Finebaum describes Saban this way in a Wall Street Journal article:
“If you’re an opposing coach, Saban is your worst nightmare. He is a CEO who coaches as if he’s a grad assistant trying to get a full-time job. He is a fanatic when it comes to attention to detail. And he is always looking ahead.”
If this was another head coach, he’d be praised for that kind of work ethic, but for those who don’t know or follow Nick Saban, they see it as a character flaw.
Here are five things to like about Nick Saban, that the rest of the public should like and appreciate about him too.
