Are the Georgia Bulldogs Really the Team to Beat in the East?

Here we are again, on the verge of another college football season and here we are again wondering if this is finally the Georgia Bulldogs year.

Without fail, once again Georgia is being picked by media as the favorite to take the East; how many times have we heard this before?

The media will make the argument that they have a great running back, their defense has improved and they’ll have a good quarterback and a schedule in their favor, but do they really?

First of all, they don’t have experience at quarterback. Hutson Mason is gone and the quarterbacking duties will may be left up to sophomore  Brice Ramsey who was Mason’s back-up last year.

No one knows how good Ramsey is, he has only

played in a clean up situations. Even Bulldogs head coach Mark Richt admits that “it’s still a race.” Not to mention that Georgia has a new offensive coordinator this year.

They do have Nick Chubb in the backfield which will help out  a lot. Chubb had over 1500 yards last year,  but if the Georgia running game is stopped, they are going to need a good quarterback to keep the defense honest.

The Georgia defense has always been an issue. There were times during the 2014 season especially against Florida and Auburn, where the defense looked much improved, but then they seem to have the same issues creep back on them in games against Missouri and Georgia Tech.

Against the Yellowjackets, they couldn’t seem to stop the option which cost them the game.

But the true stumbling block for the Bulldogs is their schedule. It never seems to fail that at some point during the season, Richt’s team seems to take a nose dive against a opponent they shouldn’t have.

Last year when the Bulldogs had a chance to still win the East, it was Florida who they stumbled against. Years before that, it has always been South Carolina.

Who will it be this year? Alabama? South Carolina again? or may be a much improved Tennessee team.

Let’s not forget either that Missouri is not going anywhere. So, Georgia could overcome all these issues and win the East, but don’t bet the house on it just yet.
