The first game will be in Tuscaloosa. When I first saw this headline, I thought it was for football.
Fans from both schools have been dying to play each other in football for years, but it doesn’t seem like either school has been able to work out a schedule to play one another in the near future.
Neither team seems to be afraid to schedule big time programs. Alabama plays Wisconsin and Southern Cal in season openers in 2015 and 2016 and the Ducks played Michigan State at home last year.
It just seems to be easier to schedule in basketball. Football schedules are made most times years in advance, while in basketball some schedules like in this case, can be made just months in advance.
As for the Oregon basketball team, they had a great season going 26-10 in the Pac 12 which was good for second place in the conference.
They made the NCAA Tournament losing in the Sweet 16 to runner-up Wisconsin 85-77.
Alabama basketball coach Avery Johnson may have picked a great time to play the Ducks because they will be without nine players from last year’s team.
Five were lost to graduation, two were kicked off the team and two more transferred to other programs.
Alabama finished the season with a 19-15 record and 8-10 in the SEC making an appearance in the NIT.
Neither school has yet to confirm the CBS Sports report.
Maybe if we are lucky enough, the two schools will finally schedule one another in football as well. Who knows, may be this will open the door for that to happen in the near future as well.
That would be a dream for both Ducks and Crimson Tide fans.
