Auburn Tigers Stop Recruiting 5-Star Linebacker Lyndell Wilson

According to reports from the Auburn Rivals website the War Room, Auburn has stop recruiting five-star linebacker Lyndell Wilson out of Carver High School in Montgomery, Al.

According to the report, Auburn stop recruiting him because “he doesn’t fit” whatever that means. Wilson himself tweeted out a photo of the write-up from AuburnSports.com.

But may be the real reason is that Wilson is a huge Alabama fan and most think he’ll end up there, but still why give up on the kid so quickly when Auburn desperately needs help on the defensive side of the ball.

As of January, there had been nine players who left the Auburn football team and that doesn’t count the three other defensive players who left in the spring which brings the grand total to 12.

Wilson said in this AL.com article back in February that he was interested in both schools.

“All my family grew up Alabama fans,” Wilson said. “I’m still an Alabama fan but taking everything in. I’m going to take visits and see how everything goes. Just because they’re my favorite school and I grew up liking them, doesn’t mean I’m going to go there. I’ll take everything in and see what I’ll do.”

“Auburn is recruiting me pretty hard.”

“I’ve talked to (defensive coordinator) Coach (Will) Muschamp a couple of times. He’s a real good guy and talks to me about life. He wants to help me develop to be a better person after football.”

It’s strange that Auburn would quietly stop recruiting a kid without warning and then make that the excuse that he wouldn’t fit in. Don’t you think you’d find a place for him to fit in knowing your team needs the help?

From all indications, Wilson seems to be a good kid with his head screwed on tight, so it will be interesting to see if Auburn is really out of the game or will they try to find a place for him next year to fit in.
