Oregon State WR transfer Richard Mullaney will visit #Alabama on Monday. Eligible to play this fall, Crimson Tide has spot. @TideSports
Mullaney, who has already graduated from OSU, would be eligible to play this season.
Before he was injured, he was one of the top wide receivers in the Pac 12. As a sophomore, he caught 52 passes for 788 yards and three touchdowns.
A change on the sideline is one of the reasons why Mullaney decided to take his talents elsewhere for his senior season.
“OSU and Reser Stadium will always be a special place for me and I’m very thankful of `Beaver Nation’ for all the support,” Mullaney said.
“I also want to thank Coach Andersen for his support in my decision. I wish him and all of my former teammates the best of luck this season.
It shouldn’t be too much of a surprise that Mullaney is considering Alabama. They do have former USC head coach Lane Kiffin as offensive coordinator, so he is probably very familiar with Kiffin’s style of coaching.
It also probably doesn’t hurt that the Tide had the top wide receiver in the nation last year in Amari Cooper, who was a Heisman finalist and ended up a first round draft choice of the Oakland Raiders.
I’m sure the Tide coaching staff will emphasize all of that when Mullaney makes his visit Sunday.
The Tide isn’t lacking at wide receiver this year, but what they are lacking in is experience at that position where they not only will be replacing Cooper, but two other wideouts as well.
So, adding Mullaney on the team couldn’t hurt him nor the Tide.
