When you think of the best players that ever played SEC football, the names Tebow, Manziel, Manning and Newton all come to mind. But before this was a quarterback conference, some of the biggest and best running backs in the country came from this conference.

Looking past the quarterback position, just a few short yards behind, you will find the players that have changed the SEC.

Names like Bo, Herschel, and Emmitt is what this conference was built on. Yes, a dual-threat quarterback can win a Heisman Trophy and create a lot of buzz in the media, but that is only due to the absence of a monster running back.

These 10 backs dominated their collegiate competition running their way to Heisman Trophies, national championships and big contracts at the next level.

But where do you begin when ranking the top-10 best running backs in SEC history?

Obviously, total yards and touchdowns go into the rankings along with which trophies the athletes garnered, but the real conversation starts with the guys who missed the cut.

Injuries derailed Georgia’s Todd Gurley from making the list. During Gurley’s time as a Bulldog he average 6.4 yards per carry and ranks 15th all-time in rushing touchdowns in the SEC with 36.

Imagine if players like Gurley didn’t get hurt…
