The SEC West is widely considered to be the toughest division in college football.  As much as SouthBound and Down readers would like to claim the SEC East is the other, that simply is not true in 2015.  That distinction belongs to the PAC-12 South.

With that being said, a $4 million dollar coach will lead his team to last in the division in the SEC West.  That statement would have been even more absurd just a few short seasons ago.  But just like in 2014, that last place team will likely also be bowl eligible.

Kevin Sumlin will be the first of the SEC West coaches to receive an evaluation.  He has coached a Heisman winner, reached double digit wins, upset a national champion on their home field, and ushered in the SEC era at Texas A&M.

He has also consistently fielded defenses loaded with talent.  Those defenses, though, have been ill equipped to even begin to slow down anyone.  Due in large part to porous defenses, Sumlin’s win total has declined each season he has been at TAMU.

What has Sumlin done to fix his defense?  Will A&M’s offense be able to continue to produce with a revolving door at quarterback?

Much like A&M’s 2015 season could go either way, the verdict is still out on Kevin Sumlin.  While he started his career at Texas A&M on fire, it is now his seat that is beginning to feel a little burn.  Such is life in the SEC.
