Amway Coaches Poll Released, First Rank for team since 2013

The week 4 Amway Coaches Poll was released on Sunday and there were not too many surprises for fans of the SEC as both the biggest movers came from the PAC-12 this week.

More from Alabama Crimson Tide

Cal rose from being well outside the Top 25 rankings all the way to 24th  after beating Washington to remain unbeaten on the year.  Oregon dropped 11 spots all the way to 24th after getting blasted by Utah 62-20.  That qualifies them to be this week’s version of Auburn last week, a team that is still ranked solely on preseason hype.  Oregon has played some good games, but two losses and a 42 point loss would have most teams completely out of the rankings … and rightfully so.

There were to notable movements for the SEC, however.  Jim McElwain has The University of Florida ranked in the Top 25 for the first time since 2013 just in time for a huge test against #5 Ole Miss.  Florida had to erase a two score deficit and survive a couple of chances at a game winning field goal for Tennessee, but they came out victorious to move to 4-0 on the season.  Their undefeated record moved the Gators to #23 in the poll. Florida faithful are surely loving being ranked again, as they have become quite accustomed to it over the past two decades.  But with Ole Miss coming to town next week, they’ll have to be at an elite level if they want to stay in the Coaches Poll.

The only other notable movement was that Alabama remains the highest ranked 1 loss team and is ahead of several undefeated teams.  The noteworthy part, however, is that they actually moved down in the polls after Utah’s dismantling of Oregon.
