Amway Coaches Poll Released (Post Week 7)

After an entertaining week 7, the Amway Coaches Poll has been released.  There was not much movement at the top.  Actually, there was no movement at all as the top 7 teams from a week ago maintained their ranking.  The season-long debate about which team is best and whether or not there are any truly great teams this season is sure to continue for quite some time.

The rest of the poll was a different story entirely.  Each and every team from 8-25 moved up or down at least one spot in the poll.  Some teams (Ole Miss) fell further than others, while others (Memphis, after beating Ole Miss) saw the biggest jump in the rankings.

With so many teams having quality wins and remaining unbeaten, it will be very interesting to see the first release of the College Football Playoff Poll.  Will an SEC team be able to crack the top 4, unlike the Coaches Poll?  Will Ohio State be punished like Florida State was last year for not looking impressive?  Will two Big XII teams be seeded in the playoff?  You may or may not like the College Football Playoff and the system it uses, but man it makes things that much more interesting.

Of note:

-Baylor is beginning to gain on Ohio State, trailing 1,547-1,488 in total votes

-No SEC team is in the top 4 for the second straight week, which makes SEC fans uneasy

-LSU and Alabama will be a top 10, and possibly top 5, showdown if these rankings hold.  It could also likely determine winner of the West

-Florida State was leapfrogged by Alabama despite remaining undefeated

-Undefeated teams outside the top 10:  Oklahoma State (12), Iowa (13), Memphis (17), Toledo (20), Houston (22) and Temple (24)

-Schools leaving the rankings:  UCLA (18), Boise State (20) and Northwestern (21)
