SEC Football: Ticket Prices Are Out of Control
Like many college football fans, tons of SEC football fans have to forego season tickets to see their favorite team play. Those who can afford them, though, can’t often pay to see their favorite team play on the road.
College football tickets are expensive. SEC football tickets, though, are the most expensive. I’ve held season tickets for the SEC football team that makes its home in Oxford ever since I was cutting grass as a student there to pay for student tickets. And it still make my wallet sad every time it comes to renew.
Erik Evans of Roll Bama Roll feels my pain, as he said in an article a couple of weeks ago:
For most of us, college football tickets are an expensive luxury, particularly when those games are played in pro venues. For instance, Alabama vs. Michigan StateCotton Bowl ducats at the Cotton Bowl pushed nearly $300. And, just a week later, Clemson vs. Alabama nosebleeds in Phoenix set you back $550…at face value.

There is a staggering chart available from ticket vendor Rukkus, which shows just how irate ticket prices are getting to watch an SEC football game.
The biggest problem? Neutral site games. SEC football fans make their homes in some of the poorest states in the United States, yet they are being asked to travel all over the country to watch SEC football. Sure, many of the college alumnus of SEC schools received quality educations and gained employment to be able to pay for such expenses. But many sidewalk fans will never have that opportunity.
The 20 most expensive SEC football games of 2016 are as follows:
20. Auburn v Clemson – $203
19. Texas A&M v Tennessee – $206
18. Georgia v North Carolina – $207
17. Tennessee v Florida – $217

Holy crap. It’s only going to get worse from here for the sidewalk fans of SEC football. These ticket prices will only rise and the average fan will get to attend fewer and fewer games as the years progress. Neutral site games make money, though, so don’t be surprised to see Northwest Georgia Florida State v Southeast Alabama Tennessee U in the Poppa Pooper’s Bowl at the Woof Woof’s Stadium soon.
