Ole Miss football is at risk of losing Markell Pack for an extended period of time this season.  Fortunately for the Rebels, wide receiver is one position at which they have plenty of depth.

Ole Miss football has started their fall camp and is seeing their fair share of injuries.  One disturbing piece of news for the Ole Miss football fans was the news of an injury of to Markell Pack.

Freeze gave the following update according to Rebel Walk, “That’s probably the most concerning if there is one that is concerning that could be a lengthy period of time. That’s probably one that concerns me the most.”

Rebel fans rejoiced in November 2013 when the ESPN 300 wide receiver flipped from Florida State to Ole Miss.  Markell Pack hasn’t lit opposing defenses up the way many Rebel fans hoped he would.  He has seen his place in the offense grow, though, and was expected to be a team leader in 2016..

More from Ole Miss Rebels

Pack has continued to work on his way to 553 receiving yards and 3 touchdowns.  After Ole Miss football lost their two leading receivers last year to the NFL (Laquon Treadwell and Cody Core), Markell Pack was expected to play an even bigger role in the Rebel’s passing attack this year.

If Ole Miss football has a surplus of talent at any position, though, it is at wide receiver.  2015 4 star wide receivers Van Jefferson and Damarkus Lodge join an already talented group for the Rebels, as do a trio of 2016 4 star receivers in Tre Nixon, AJ Brown and DK Metcalfe.  While losing Pack isn’t an ideal situation for Ole Miss football, it isn’t one that should lead to the Rebels seeing a decline in offensive production.

If you’re having any doubts about whether Ole Miss football has the receivers to keep the Rebel’s offense humming at a high pace, you shouldn’t.  Damarkus Lodge already took over Markell Pack’s starting spot in the slot with the release of the Ole Miss depth chart.  Chad Kelly and the Rebels will be just fine.
