As we continue to dream of SEC football, we’ll look at each team and tell you who their best player is.  Mississippi State football is up next, and their best player is a seasoned veteran in senior wide receiver Fred Ross.

Each SEC football team has at least a few studs.  Whether it be their middle linebacker, corner, wide receiver or quarterback, each fan base has THAT dude.  Who is that dude for Mississippi State football?

First of all, Mississippi State football will be looking all over the place for offensive weapons in 2016.   While Dak Prescott is now impressing in the preseason for the Cowboys, the Bulldogs are left without their best player ever.  In addition, wide receiver Fred Brown was dismissed from the University.  I can’t say team, since we know Mullen will let anyone that contributes continue playing at Mississippi State (see Jeffery Simmons).  As a result, Many Mississippi State football fans are preparing for a bit of a letdown compared to the past two seasons.

More from Mississippi State Bulldogs

Finally, the good news for the offense of Mississippi State.  Though he is only one player, however, their best player still comes from the offensive side of the ball.  While linebacker Richie Brown, defensive end A.J. Jefferson and safety Brandon Bryant may disagree, there is no doubt who their best player is.  Mississippi State football will see their season succeed to the degree that senior wide receiver Fred Ross succeeds.

Last season Ross came down with 88 catches for 1,000 yards and five touchdowns.  Although that TD number will need to come up, having a 1,000 yard receiver returning is always good news. The problem, though, is whether he can produce with an unproven quarterback tossing passes his way.  Fortunately, he’s got the skill set to make whichever quarterback wins the job look better.

As I mentioned before, Ross must have more receiving touchdowns this year.  Most noteworthy on that front, though, is that all 5 of his receiving touchdowns came in his last 5 games last year.  If he can even almost keep that average up, Mississippi State football could be the surprise team of the SEC West.
