5dimes has set the over/under for Auburn football wins in 2016 at 7.5 – is there money to be made?

Before we begin, let’s briefly address why the number 8 will be so important. If you’ve been following along with this series, you’ve already about the over/under system and how it works. If not, here’s a simple break down. 5dimes set the over/under number for Auburn football wins at 7.5 for 2016. This means if you decided to place a bet on the Tigers’ season victory total, you would have to pick either under (7 or less) or over (8 or more). I do want to stress that this is just for fun and is not meant to be a betting guide.   Now that we’ve got that out of the way, let’s see if Auburn football attaining 8 wins or more is realistic.

Auburn football recently gave Malzahn an extension (which some here think means absolutely nothing), despite a mediocre tenure after his first year as coach.  In order to prove he was worth it — and more money next time –, he’ll have to improve on his last two seasons in a hurry.  Many believe Auburn will be fine if they find a quarterback, but that’s easier said than done.  Auburn will also be playing with their third defensive coordinator in as many seasons, so that transition will be of utmost importance if Auburn football is to beat expectations.

Auburn Football 2016 Schedule

Clemson– Loss.  While a revamped defense and a quality quarterback could make Auburn a serious threat to anyone, they won’t be ready for Watson and Co in week one.

Arkansas State-  Win.  This one may be the difference in a bowl birth for Auburn football.  Malzahn is doing his old employer a solid here and letting Arkansas State collect a check…or at least that’s the plan.

Texas A&M-  Toss-up.  Auburn football has a kindred spirit in College Station.  Both squads overachieved with great quarterback early in their tenures, only to see their teams play below average since.  There’s no telling what happens here.

LSU- Toss-up.  Many will call this an automatic loss, but I’m not so sure.  Leonard Fournette embarrassed the Tigers last season; the Auburn defense will be out for a measure of revenge.  I don’t think that’ll matter, but Auburn has too much talent to be counted out this early in the season.

Louisana Monroe– Win.

@Mississippi State – Loss.  I think this is unfair, but Auburn has 5 home games to start the year off.  It’ll bite the Tigers in the butt in their first away test.

Arkansas – Win.  This is about the time of year the Bielema is struggling and this time it’ll benefit Auburn football.  The Tigers will also be out for blood after losing in Starkville.

@ Ole Miss- Toss-up.  Ole Miss is the more talented team, but Auburn football always seems to give the Rebels problems.

Vanderbilt- Win.  While Vandy will be much improved offensively, they won’t have the offensive firepower to challenge Auburn in this game.

@ Georgia –  Loss.  If any first year coach knows how to coach against Auburn, it’s Kirby Smart.  He spent years beating Auburn as the defensive coordinator at Alabama.

Alabama A&M-  Win

@ Alabama – Loss.  The Tide will roll in a major way in this one.  Auburn will fight hard in the first half, but their talent gap will show in the second.  While Saban will miss Smart, he definitely knows how to plan for this rivalry.

Verdict

Auburn football is a scary betting proposition in 2016.  They are one of the most talented teams in the entire country, but they have struggled to do much of anything in recent seasons.  The only other time expectations have been low for Auburn, though, Malzahn had them playing for a national championship.  Stay away from betting the Auburn football line.
